Off to the Potty Races!

Punky has been vocally more interested in telling us that she is “poopy” or “I hafta pee” in the last few months. I have been hesitant on the potty training front before because we don’t have a washer and dryer in our apartment and it is just going to be a mess. I’m sure of it.

However, everything I keep reading says when your child is ready, things will fall in place. And just like when we used to think “we need to wait until we are ready to have a baby”, I thought, “I need to wait until we are ready to potty train.”

Except … when is any first time parent really READY to potty train. I mean seriously? There’s never going to be a ‘perfect time’ to potty train.

With Kim’s health right now, still uncertain and very much up in the air, I have been increasingly more hesitant to potty train Miss Punky – but as kids around her age are starting to potty train and little girls in the family are starting to have potty charts and such, I figure, now is as good a time as any to get started.

Tomorrow morning, we wear panties. Big girl panties. I bought some when she started school a few months ago, and she has worn them over her pull-ups, but she’s never actually worn them alone.

She’s been able to communicate so much better lately, she’s speaking in full (semi-coherent when she’s not whining) sentences and singing up a storm. Just this afternoon, I caught her singing a choppy version of her ABCs and it was pretty much, give or take a few letters, on tune and in order. Miss Punky can also count to 10! Its just awesome how much she has blossomed in just a few months from her second birthday.

I’m hearing more and more “I do it!” when it comes to get dressed and undressed. So, Kim has to keep reminding me to let her do it and she will come to me when she wants help. Even when she tries to put her head in the head hole of her shirt instead of the bottom of the shirt first. It’s just nuts to watch the trial and error and the extreme frustration that comes with learning basic skills we adults take for granted.

In other news, Kim has a neurologist appointment on the 20th. Fingers crossed that her ailments aren’t something severe. for a 31 year old woman, she’s falling apart, my love is breaking down and we could all use a few positive vibes (and if you are my mama, prayers in lieu of positive thoughts) sent our way for healthy results to the next few weeks and less stress on me!

In even more news, state by state is knocking down their bans on gay marriage, congratulations to Wisconsin. I sure can’t wait until Missouri makes it that far, but of course, I won’t hold my breath. I am sure we will be the last belle to arrive at the ball! Instead, I have been putting my creativity to use, making super cute bridal shower invitations for lesbian weddings. I’m so excited about the new line int he shop.

I’ve just been super busy in the shop coming up with new ideas and of course, I am always looking for new themes and ideas!

In the meantime, I’m all ears for tips and tricks on potty training a toddler, a two year old girl to be more specific!! Give me a shout, I could use a little words of encouragement to keep my sanity in check this coming week, for more reasons than just the potty training!

11/52 – Exploring Spring Weather

spring

Here in the Midwest of the US, we have been slowly digging ourselves out of cold temps and snowy terrain. Punky got some bubbles for her birthday and we had some fun with them for the first time, really, on Saturday. She was able to really enjoy them, interact with them.

Minus the whining that is currently going on right now, I think this may be my favorite stage in her life so far!

She’s talking so much, she says so many things, she comprehends so much. Today, we picked her up from school and the teacher gave me the most astounded look and said, “She’s so polite.” I just had to laugh. Punky says “Thank you” to everything. Usually at the right time, but sometimes, she just says it.

We’ve been discovering language and she’s been practicing with words. She will say “Oops Sorry.” or “Oh No.” out of no where. “I get it.” She’s expanded to larger sentences that are broken and a little slow, but it’s still astonishing to me that we are able to communicate. She says things like “Have a cookie, Mommy.” or when I prompt her, she will say “Have a cookie, please, Mommy.” which is five whole words strung together!

We have been getting a little more sassy in our words as well. “Stop it.” and “Sit Mommy.” is a frequent couple of phrases coming out of her mouth.

Lots of time is spent making sure that Mommy knows when she is hurt and making sure that Mommy kisses the exact right place on her appendages. And when that spot, that magical, elusive spot is kisses, I get a “Thank you Mommy!” and she’s off running around the apartment again.

I know I spend a lot of time talking about her communication, but it really is the coolest thing ever to watch and to hear! It is also dangerous, when her Mommy talks like a sailor sometimes. So, I am taking my time when I speak and trying to be more aware of my surroundings.

Oh! Speaking of communicating, Punky also for the first time, on her own told me “Go potty.” and we went to the potty, pants down and everything. Nothing happened, but Mommy had to go anyway, so why not do what she says.

We haven’t been pushing the idea of potty training, since I’m not even sure where to start and frankly, I think she’s still a little small for that, but since going to school, she’s been telling us when she’s “Poopy”, sometimes it’s not true, and then sometimes, like tonight – it is very true. I can’t tell if she’s telling me she’s “Poopy” before she actually goes or after, because this one time she was telling the truth, I didn’t check!

It feels like its too soon for us to have a two year old. They aren’t kidding when they say time flies. Goodness, they never really tell you how much time flies and people most certainly don’t express, as I don’t think there are words, for how incredibly awesome it is to witness how the time flies and what fills up that time!

And while our little one, minus the ridiculous whining, is generally pretty damn sweet, it’s the quiet moments that I appreciate the most when I forget just why we wanted to be moms in the first place!

Guess Who Starts Pre-School on Tuesday

IMG_4748

I enrolled Miss Punky into daycare part time for two days a week. It’s a daycare with a Preschool curriculum, so I’m excited for her to go. It’s not as pricey as I would have thought, perhaps not what I want to spend extra money on that we don’t really have, but it will be worth it.

We have decided that while we know that Punky is turning two and it’s just her developmental stage, she’s also bored. She doesn’t really get out and go places and see other kids on a regular basis. We are thinking that may have lead to some of the outbursts and tantrums.

In fact, since the start of the sticker chart, I have seen less frustration and agitation from her. I don’t see her all day, but so far, she seems to be more subdued!

Anyway, she’s going to be attending daycare from 7:30AM – 5:30PM in the 2-3 year old (Coconuts) classroom starting on Tuesday and she will go Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s a pretty nice facility and the staff seems great! She will have breakfast, lunch, and two snacks; as well as a nap by the time I pick her up from school.

Speaking of naps, I needed to get her a nap mat for school, so I went online to look, Walmart had some pretty cheap ones, so I let her tell me which ones she liked. She said yes to a bunch and to all the princess ones she made an emphatic “No” and she said yes to five different ones. I put them all on one page and asked her to pick her favorite.

This was verdict!

The dinosaur! I expected her to pick the cars one, but she kept pointing between the dinosaur and the owl. But every time she left and came back it was dinosaur. So her dinosaur nap mat has been ordered. It won’t come in time for her to go to school on Tuesday, but in a few weeks it will be here.

I got paid today, so I was able to pick up some ‘school clothes’ or ‘play clothes’ for her to take to school and keep there. Since she’s in the 2-3 year old class, they suggested that I bring enough for potty training, because she will probably see the other kids potty training and be interested.

So, on top of starting preschool and picking out her own nap mat. She now has panties. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I cannot believe that I am already buying panties for my big girl. I mean, seriously, she will be 2 in literally 2 weeks!! She has a variety of panties in Dora, My Little Pony, and plain pink and white designs. We won’t be pushing the idea and I told ┬áher teachers to let her lead, but we may have a potty trained two year old before you know and I am just floored.

I can’t take much more of this. I hear if you stop feeding them, they stop growing .. I can’t get her to stand still long enough to put books on her head, so perhaps that method will work!

Oi. People. Our kid is starting to stress me out and not in a bad way!! This Mommy is all kinds of sentimental right now, mostly over panties. LOL.
