This Just In!

We just landed in “BIG GIRL LAND”

So much has happened in just this one day. I swear, toddlers are the most astounding little people on the planet.

This afternoon, I had to stay home from work for some … personal issues, so I of course spent time with our Punky. Always a treat and a whine-fest – so it really just re-enforces the ‘working mom’ role is best for me.

However, we have moments of pure awesome too!

So, at school, March has been the month of learning about space and planets and things like that. They have been painting aliens, learning about the different planets, and playing with “ice planets” (I’m not really sure what that is.) Anyway, for my baby shower with my co-workers, each guest colored a letter and they made me an alphabet book for Punky when she got bigger.

Well, now she’s bigger. She found the book on her own, not sure where it has been stored, but suddenly she had it out and brought it to me saying “Read it, Mommy”.

Well, ok, sure.

We get to “O” and it was covered in planets and the sun and such. I suppose it’s for the word “Orbit”. A strange word for an alphabet book, right? Nope. She says, “Planets, Mommy.”

Excuse me?! And while Kim and I are looking at each other with our mouths open, she points to ‘saturn’ and says “Mercury” which I clearly know that Saturn isn’t Mercury, but it’s pretty damn awesome that our kid knows a planet’s name!

I get the vibe sometimes that ‘daycare’ is looked down upon by some, especially stay-at-home moms, but you know what, it’s just like anything else we do for Punky (TV and electronics included, a post for another day) it’s all about education and fun combined.

So, we go take a nap and when she gets up, we needed to change her pull-up and she came to me and says “Go Potty.” well, I can’t tell right now if she’s just experimenting with words or if she really means it. I mean, if she’s interested – who am I to discourage right?

She brought me her Dora panties and I was like, “Well, ok!” Terrified – I took her to her room and gave her a choice between pull-up and panties. (I’m pretty sure I had a moment of temporary insanity, people!) She picked Dora panties over Minnie Mouse pull-ups of course! When I put the panties on her bare booty, she was just giving me the strangest looks. She kept poking at it, like it was some new sensation.

I let her run around the apartment for about 10 minutes without pants or pull-up and she came to me at one point and said “Go Potty.” So she sat on her potty for a good ten minutes, for the first time without panties and just carried on a great little broken conversation with me on the bathroom floor. (We got nothing, but there was plenty of clapping involved)

SO, after that, I got to thinking about how we don’t have a washer and dryer and damnit what if she peed on the couch and we didn’t really plan for this and we didn’t really have this thought out. How do we even begin to communicate this thing with her? How do I make her understand that she has to tell me when she needs to pee. She can’t pull her own panties up or down.

And I started second guessing myself and that’s when the thoughts took over (anxiety brain) and kicked into overdrive and I ushered her back to her room to put pull-up on!

Yes, Mommy sabotaged her first attempt at potty training, but I got nervous! She’s interested – the teacher at her school said she may start to be more interested and she has been more vocal about when she has to be changed and things. So it’s not like she can’t communicate with us, but jeebs, I just got all nuts about it.

Maybe we will try again another day! We aren’t in any rush, right? I mean, she doesn’t go to kindergarten for a few more years! Haha.

She coerced me into taking her outside for a bit, she got a new bubble car for her birthday and she was very excited to put ‘gas’ in it and blow bubbles everywhere.

After going outside in the chilly semi-spring weather, we made dinner and Kim decided to get out the table she got for her birthday. Yet another BIG GIRL moment. We retired the high chair tonight and gave her a cup without a lid for dinner.

It went as well as can be expected. She ate the crap out of pulled pork and that was awesome. She’s being less of a picky eater since school started too! If I had any reservations about putting her in ‘daycare’ those have all been countered by the great things it’s doing for her development!

Lots of big girl things going on around here. She’s such a good little helper and she’s so vocal about everything. She sang bits and pieces of “Twinkle, Twinkle” today and danced to “The Voice” with Mommy today.

I hope to have many more moments of fun and sweet with my special girl! I know some people are looking at adding to their family, but I don’t know if I could hold anymore love for any other kid but this one. Even in the moments when she drives me absolutely batty, she’s just the joy and heart of my life.

Besides, we really lucked out in the kid department. From conception to toddler-hood, we have the best experience and the best kid anyone could ask for. Sometimes, I feel guilty for the awesome-ness that is our kid!

Even if she does steal my money! LOL

Guess Who Starts Pre-School on Tuesday

IMG_4748

I enrolled Miss Punky into daycare part time for two days a week. It’s a daycare with a Preschool curriculum, so I’m excited for her to go. It’s not as pricey as I would have thought, perhaps not what I want to spend extra money on that we don’t really have, but it will be worth it.

We have decided that while we know that Punky is turning two and it’s just her developmental stage, she’s also bored. She doesn’t really get out and go places and see other kids on a regular basis. We are thinking that may have lead to some of the outbursts and tantrums.

In fact, since the start of the sticker chart, I have seen less frustration and agitation from her. I don’t see her all day, but so far, she seems to be more subdued!

Anyway, she’s going to be attending daycare from 7:30AM – 5:30PM in the 2-3 year old (Coconuts) classroom starting on Tuesday and she will go Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s a pretty nice facility and the staff seems great! She will have breakfast, lunch, and two snacks; as well as a nap by the time I pick her up from school.

Speaking of naps, I needed to get her a nap mat for school, so I went online to look, Walmart had some pretty cheap ones, so I let her tell me which ones she liked. She said yes to a bunch and to all the princess ones she made an emphatic “No” and she said yes to five different ones. I put them all on one page and asked her to pick her favorite.

This was verdict!

The dinosaur! I expected her to pick the cars one, but she kept pointing between the dinosaur and the owl. But every time she left and came back it was dinosaur. So her dinosaur nap mat has been ordered. It won’t come in time for her to go to school on Tuesday, but in a few weeks it will be here.

I got paid today, so I was able to pick up some ‘school clothes’ or ‘play clothes’ for her to take to school and keep there. Since she’s in the 2-3 year old class, they suggested that I bring enough for potty training, because she will probably see the other kids potty training and be interested.

So, on top of starting preschool and picking out her own nap mat. She now has panties. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I cannot believe that I am already buying panties for my big girl. I mean, seriously, she will be 2 in literally 2 weeks!! She has a variety of panties in Dora, My Little Pony, and plain pink and white designs. We won’t be pushing the idea and I told  her teachers to let her lead, but we may have a potty trained two year old before you know and I am just floored.

I can’t take much more of this. I hear if you stop feeding them, they stop growing .. I can’t get her to stand still long enough to put books on her head, so perhaps that method will work!

Oi. People. Our kid is starting to stress me out and not in a bad way!! This Mommy is all kinds of sentimental right now, mostly over panties. LOL.

New Things on the Horizon

As a quick side note, anyone interested, I finally put up Punky’s birth story. You can find that and other interesting things that have gone on in our last almost 2 years of motherhood and toddler hood by going to “Highlights of Our Journey”

Our little Punky is wearing pink Dora pullups under those pjs. You wouldn’t know it, but she is! I didn’t feel it appropriate to take a picture in her undies and post it on the interwebs. I was tempted though! But after that weird search term I got before … well, that’s for another day.

Anyway, we have been tossing around the idea of potty training, but Punky isn’t yet 2 and she still can’t quite communicate with us when she is going to the bathroom. Right now, we are trying to condition her to telling us when she “poops” and when she is “wet” – neither of these has been very successful.

I’m not really interested in rushing it, but damn it would be nice to be out from under diapers. For sure. Not only are they an extra expense, with the wipes every two weeks, but they really do make the trash bags I have to carry to the dumpster super freaking heavy. A mommy can wish right?

Speaking of Mommy…. that word. That word right now, gets me every time. She’s been extra clingy and pretty darn cuddly lately. It may be because I’ve been home more than normal this last week. With sickness and utter staled out in the day job, I’ve taken more time off than usual. In fact, I’m on my third day in a row of being off, tomorrow being my last day of my impromptu vacation.

When she looks up at me with big brown eyes and just says, “Mommy.” or when she comes up on the couch and curls up on my lap and leans in real close, lips to my cheek but no kisses, and says, “Mommy?” It just melts my heart right now. Before bed, when I tuck her in and kiss her forehead, it reminds me of the reason I keep sane in moments of terrorism in this house. “Night Night Mommy.” as she curls up with her gigantic sock monkey and drinks her sippy.

We had a much better day today with Miss Punky. I actually plan to get her an appointment to see her doctor tomorrow if I can get her in, just because the shrieking for no ‘apparent’ reason has become a thing. I am not sure if her diaper is irritating her or if she has something wrong down there, but she has been doing a lot of grabbing at the “no no area”. Now, we are starting to wonder if it hurts when she pees.

And she’s been peeing a lot. This morning, she woke up to a soaked through diaper and pants, and a wet spot in her bed, I had to clean the sheets. It was almost like she wasn’t wearing any diaper at all.

So, off to the doctor with our monster to see if they can find out if she is just being a terror at almost two or if there really is something we should be concerned about.

In the meantime, we had some great fun today, driving her trucks and cars around the living room, watching Mommy figure out how to make clip art like these cuties that I created ALL BY MYSELF in Photoshop!!

preview1

I’m hoping to add clip art to my shop, so that it can be more digital instant downloads, and while I still have the invitations and party planning stuff, I can let the clip art sell itself. So far, these aren’t listed, but they are pretty darn cute, right!?

We also dusted off the Giggle Bellies yesterday and it’s been a common theme the last two days. It’s almost like “Punky Whisperer” and she sits on the couch or dancing around the living room for a full two rounds of the DVD, which luckily Mommy enjoys singing too as well.

If you haven’t ever heard of the Giggle Bellies, I highly recommend them. Take a look at them on YouTube. It literally looks like someone created them on LSD, but every kid I’ve ever seen watch them is instantly transfixed. My kid especially.

All in all, we had less shrieking – more loving and more fun today. Thank goodness, this Mommy needed a break from her break from work there for a minute and that means it was rough. If I wanted to go BACK to work for a moment, if I even contemplated it, it means it was tough. Yesterday was tough, today was sweetness.
