Day 13: Santa Writes A Letter To The Toddler

We already put the tree up and the card in the envelope said to go sit with Santa, but we will be doing that tomorrow. So, I was in a bit of a tight spot in which I had no idea what we were going to do today.

Then we got the mail!

So, I let her open up her envelope and munch on her chocolate covered marshmellow Santa.

IMG_3215

It was the most delicious piece of candy to come out of her envelopes thus far. At least, it looks like she was very excited about it, hmm.

IMG_3219

We then got to go to the mailbox and got our very first letter. Well, technically, she got a letter last year too, but this is the first time that she has opened her own piece of mail.

IMG_3221

We found out that she was on the Nice List this year. Which, her moms find a little hard to believe, as she’s kind of a jerk some times. But then of course, she’s also been engineered to survive all her ridiculous brattiness with severe cuteness. So, it all balances out.

IMG_3227

Her mama, on the other hand, is getting NOTHING for Christmas! 😉

Day 12: Coloring Christmas Cards for Family

I woke up with a migraine today and called out sick to work. I’m still not feeling great, in that, my head still has a dull throb to it.

I stayed home with Punky and spent time hanging out quietly around the house. This afternoon, we opened her envelope for the day and it had a little tattoo inside and the idea for coloring Christmas Cards to send to our family members.

IMG_3148

IMG_3154

It was the first time that she didn’t eat the crayons. Of course, the longer she was coloring the more she had to fight the urge to eat the crayons. She did eat a few of the tips off of them.

After a nap, we got up and started to set up the Christmas tree. I have been meaning to set it up for some time, so we finally got it put it. Punky did a lot of helping us with the putting it together. She was kind of fascinated with the branches.

IMG_3164

She got to put the star on the top of the tree as well.

IMG_3181

After getting the lights on, we found that some of the ornaments from last year were broken, so we figured we needed to get some more. Punky and I went out to Walmart for more. She picked out some cute purple ornaments, shatterproof, of course.

IMG_3183

She came home with a new baby. Typical of a shopping trip with Punky.

When we got home, she helped me put the ornaments on the tree, which really just consisted of her shoving the ornaments in between the branches and letting them fall to the floor. Shatterproof! Thank goodness.

IMG_3191

IMG_3194

When the tree was put up, we wrapped her up in the left over garland. She marched and danced around the living room with garland falling to her feet.

IMG_3200

While I had a headache most of the day and my eyes and sinuses seem to be bothering me, I had a decent time with my little monster today!

Day 11: Opening Presents from Out of Town Uncle and Aunt

First, I was nominated for a nice little blog award, known as the “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award”. Thanks Andrea for the nomination! I really do appreciate it! 🙂 You should really check out this super great chick – her blog is sincere, beautifully written, and pretty darn full of raw emotion.

So, this morning, I woke up to a message from my brother that says “Check out your back porch sometime today”

That’s a little weird, since he lives nearly 3 hours away and he isn’t visiting the area at 2 in the morning that I’m aware of! So, curious, I go pop my head out on the patio and on the table out there in the very cold weather, there’s a cardboard box.

I just had to laugh. My brother and his wife are expecting their very first baby, a little boy, in February. I’m pretty darn excited for them! Anyway, he somehow managed to sneak a box on my porch from 3 hours away. His son is going to have one hell of a magical Christmas when the time comes!

When I got off work, I picked up the girls at Kim’s moms and we ate dinner there. When we got home, we decided to open up the magical box of gifts.

IMG_3126

She got her envelope full of jellybeans. And we were supposed to make a plate for Santa’s cookies, but well, Mommy didn’t get all the stuff to do that and well, I figured it was getting late, so we would just use tonight to open gifts from someone else.

This is her first time really opening a present on her own. It was pretty cute. She was dainty about it!

IMG_3130

Inside was a new comic book from her Aunt and Uncle and their expecting little baby cousin Archer. And some pretty super cars! Punky sure loves cars.

IMG_3137

IMG_3147

She drove them all over the couch and on my leg. It was quite cute. She even put them to bed and tried to hide them, like a dog hides a bone, inside the cracks of the couch. She hugged them and kissed them and stuck them up under her armpits, to keep them warm I suppose.

We made a little video for her Aunt and Uncle in which she signed thank you and told them hi. It was a pretty small and tiny thing tonight, but it just shows how much she is loved by so many people and we are just so thankful!

Day 10: Christmas In The Park

I came home to a peanut butter M&M explosion on the couch. Seems our little one thought it would be fun to dump the bag on the couch and then munch on them. Oh well. So, I came home to a sugary kid.

We opened our envelope and she wasn’t as interested in it as usual, but she was very excited to go bye bye. It’s very rare we go bye bye in the middle of the week.

IMG_3096

She was super happy to get her socks and shoes on and put on her coat. She loves putting on her hood and it’s kind of cute that she can’t go anywhere without the hood placed on her head.  However, when we got up the stairs and to the door to the building, she was not really having it. She turned tail and tried to go back to our apartment door after the cold wind hit her face.

IMG_3099

We got her in the car and headed to the Christmas in the Park. It’s a park with nothing but a giant Christmas light show. They have all sorts of displays and I figured it would be something new and different for Punky. She seemed to enjoy sitting on her Mama’s lap and looking out the window of the car. She would say hi to the waving elf displays and point to the deer light displays jumping over the car.

IMG_3101

After the drive through the park and the pretty lights, we did have put her back into the car seat and she was not thrilled about this. It was very upsetting to her! She was not pleased to see the lights going away as we drove away from the park.

IMG_3117

We had to go to the grocery store – so we got her out in the grocery store and she got a book out of the deal. Pretty typical of an outing with Punky.

IMG_3119

So day 10 was definitely a success. She was very excited about the lights and it was fun for all!

Day 9: Reading a New Book with Mommy and a Baby Foot Tattoo

A long day at work and a stressed out baby mama. I came home and got the dinner on and put the kiddo in the bathtub.

Day 9 was really just a simple little night. A new book for Punky and a little tattoo. She’s loving the temporary tattoos right now. I think it’s great. Its a super cute favorite thing for our daughter. She loves the little things and I

absolutely love that she is so easily amused.

IMG_3070

IMG_3074

We had a nice time hanging out on the couch and spending time together. I have come to look forward to the nights after work when we get to open a new envelope. She seems to look forward to it too!

IMG_3077

She got a tattoo on her foot tonight, it was awesome! She even walked ridiculously afterward. She just kept wanting to look at it, so she waddled a lot. It was very cute.

IMG_3084

She stole my peppermint white chocolate pretzels and decided she needed to try and feed me. Thank goodness she didn’t lick it first or give me one without chocolate on it!

Day 8: Decorate the Christmas Tree

So, the first night in the big girl bed was a success for the most part. She laid in it with no problem, but when she lost her sippy cup in the bed she freaked out. We filled it back up and laid her back down, turned on a night light and she was pretty much out. A small bit of crying it out and of course, it worked. We will see how tonight goes.

IMG_3058

IMG_3059

Originally, it was time to decorate our Christmas tree at home tonight. But, I volunteered to work and it ended up being late. By the time I got home, we were not really feeling the idea of putting together tree and stringing the lights and such. So, luckily, Grammy and Papa came and picked Punky up to decorate their Christmas tree with them and her cousins.

1468786_10200955518477552_557201358_n

When I got home, she was very much ready to open her envelope. So, while the countdown isn’t going like I had planned, she’s still experiencing Christmas activities every day, which was the goal of the countdown. AND, I really do appreciate family members helping making her holidays special.

IMG_3063

Today she pulled out jellybeans again. Day 8 was not as planned, but still pretty darn successful.

Day 7: Walking Through WhoVille with Mommy

Originally, we were supposed to go to Christmas in the Park. In our location, it’s a place where you drive through the park and they have big light scenes and decorations. We will still do that, but I was shopping yesterday and I came across a flyer on their classified boards.

A local church down the road was putting on a Who-bilation Celebration in their church. We don’t usually frequent churches, as we all know, but this looked like something right up our alley, what with the Dr. Seuss theme we have started with Punky.

So, we pulled out her birthday dress, and it still fits, so she and I made an appearance at the church and pranced around the WhoVille streets.

IMG_3002

They had all sorts of games and candy and picture ops. She got her picture taken by complete strangers, but I figured, perhaps it was fine, since her pictures are all over the internet now, huh. Anyway – she got to go into the bakery and the cupcake shop, decorating with lots of icing and sprinkles.

IMG_2994

After about an hour of hanging out with all the WhoVille people, we took a few pictures with the backdrops they had all over the church hallways. The Grinch was running around stealing cookies and cupcakes throughout the halls, but she was not really interested in him.

IMG_3033

By the end of the night, we were tuckered out. We stopped to get Mama some dinner and headed on home, hopped up on all the Christmas sugar we were given at the party!

IMG_3048

Before we headed out for the evening, Mama and I put her new big girl bed together. So she was able to come home, change into her pirate pjs, open up her envelope on her bed and see that she had a new car hidden inside of it!

IMG_3049

IMG_3052

We are going to see how it goes with her sleeping in her new big girl bed. So far, she loves it and she hasn’t really gotten out of it. I must admit, she has slept in it before, because we got the bed from Grammy and Papa. She is familiar with the bed, but she very cute in the bed. I am interested to see how she does tonight.

Let me just say … my baby looks so big in that bed! I am starting to get more sentimental as the year goes on. She’s going to be two in March and just watching her sit and lay in the big girl bed, makes me super emotional!

IMG_3054

I just want to keep her as small as she is. She is mimicking more, she’s talking more, she’s learning so much, so fast!

In other news, Kim and I downloaded the application for our marriage license. We filled it out and we are looking into getting this under way soon! We definitely need to get married before my work benefits kick in around June, so she can be covered on my insurance properly.

We just have to get the trip scheduled for our five hour journey to Iowa. We need to get this application to a notary and mail it in. Then we can go to Iowa, hopefully with a two witnesses and a minister. We got more planning to do, but we are getting closer!

Day 7 for this Christmas Countdown is definitely a hit.

Day 6: Planting Candy Canes with Mommy

I had to work late tonight. I had stay later than I even expected helping a customer get their medication before the weekend. I was really looking forward to today’s event, so I started it right away!

Day 6 started out with opening the envelope. It had little chocolate snowmen balls to eat. She has become such a chocoholic.

I got her all set up and got her set up with her mini plant pot and some crayons. They are ‘my first crayons’ for toddlers specifically. This was a learning experience for the two of us. She is learning to color and I learned that she didn’t try to eat the crayons this time!

We might be able to color for real now! Let’s hope!

IMG_2959

She had a nice time picking out the colors and making a few little scribbles and marks. She really enjoyed coloring on the inside of the pot the best.

IMG_2962

She looks so focused right! So, once she got tired of coloring and got ready to move on to the next step of planting the candy canes. I just think this idea is the cutest thing and I am sure that as she gets bigger she will really love doing this every year.

What did we do without Pinterest, I mean seriously?!

IMG_2968

Next we put some snowflake confetti in the pot. She had a little fun dropping the plastic snowflakes into the planting pot. I think she really just liked to hear the sound as it was dropped into it.

IMG_2970

Next, we took some ‘elf seeds’ and pushed them in the snowflakes and shook the pot around. She sprinkled a little blue glitter on the top to ‘water’ it and we will wait until the morning for the candy cane to sprout!

Day 5: Jingle Bells Bracelet Making With Mommy

Day five was another day of M&Ms, which is becoming a very special snack for Punky. She loves those. She opened up her next envelope and immediately popped the little candy coated chocolate in her mouth.

IMG_2939

Notice the horse tattoo that is on her hand that is quickly disintegrating!

She helped me string the bells on an invisible jewelry line. Really she just helped me pick out the order of the bells. She just gave them to me – and I put them on the string for her.

IMG_2944

The more bells she gave me the bigger the bracelet got. She was really loving the jingle bell song. So I sang jingle bell Christmas carol and she started to mimic me. So every time I sang she would holler “HEY!” She let me put the bracelet on her wrist and we jingled and shook it around the living room.

IMG_2948

She wore the bracelet, prancing around the house with it for a good 10 minutes, I am beginning to see a pattern with my toddler’s attention span. Anyway, she took it off and Mama put it on the monster. Her favorite baby right now.

IMG_2954

She would shake it around and gave it to me several times, before I threw it in her room. She tore it off the monster’s neck and by the end of the night the bells were no longer strung on the bracelet and are now laying on my living room floor.

She does come by periodically and pick one up and shake it at me. Day five was pretty darn successful, she just kept in true tradition for our toddler and enjoyed it for a short period of time!

Day Four: Gingerbread Man Decorating with Moms

Day four was thwarted by the retail and Pinterest impossibilities. Originally, I was going to construct a felt Christmas tree for her, complete with ornaments, so that when we put our tree up, she won’t be as tempted to play with the real one. Of course, that’s the theory.

I looked very long for a large green piece of felt. It didn’t work, I would have to order it online and I didn’t have time to wait for the felt to come. So, instead, I was at Walmart getting some errands run and I came across some super awesome pre-made gingerbread men.

IMG_2910

So we had a little dinner and then set up the highchair at the dining room table and set up the decorating station. I knew going into that Peyton wouldn’t really be able to help decorate and do a ‘professional’ job. However, she did have fun helping put on the gumdrops and pretended to put icing on the cookie.

IMG_2913

IMG_2917

So, she did a lot of decorating, sampling and licking her fingers. She also mimicked her Mama who was making her own gingerbread man. It was great to see my girls doing something extra fun together.

IMG_2919

Of course, when it came to eating the cookies, none of us really wanted to eat them. As you can see by her face, Punky was thrilled with her decorating skills and was ready to hop right in the bath after she finished.

Day Four of the Christmas Countdown was a success!
